Things To Do in New Fairfield
When I first started working in New Fairfield I was always wondering what people do here. After months of exploring the quaint town I found many different things to do. I started understanding why people love this small town located in Western Connecticut. Here's my favorite things to do in New Fairfield! New Fairfield's number one attraction is certainly Candlewood Lake. Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut and is actually man made. I've heard stories that if you dive towards the bottom of the lake that you'll actually discover old tractors and other items from the town. Candlewood is located in Fairfield and Litchfield county and is a full 8.4 square miles. If you're not lucky enough to own a house on the lake then you'll need to use one of the nearby public beaches. Squantz Pond State Park is one of the most popular beaches in New Fairfield and definitely one of the best things to do in the area. This recreation area is only a short drive from Danbury and Westchester County making it an extremely popular place to go during the spring and summer months.
Another great thing to do in NF is head over the Great Hollow Nature Preserve & Ecological Research Center located on 225 CT-37 right in New Fairfield. It's a beautiful place to go and observe the local wildlife. The people handling the preserve are very nice and all live locally in surrounding towns such as Sherman, CT or Brewster, NY. Besides relaxing on the beaches bordering Candlewood Lake there are many other things to do. People from Brewster, Patterson, Pawling and the other local areas of Putnam County always cross the New York Border to come dine in New Faifield. This little Western Connecticut town is known for their top-rated restaurants. Biscotti's Ristorante is an Italian restaurant known for their excellent cuisine. If you're looking for a more family friendly place you ought to head down to The 440 Line located on 249 Connecticut 39. It's great for casual family dining and the 440 Line has a ton of raving fans of their wings & pizza.
Another couple notable dining establishes in the nearby area are Icons Sports Bar and Grill, Olde 37 Patio & Grill, Villa Pasta Fortunado, Bruno's Pizzeria, Portofino Restuarant and Boccaccio. Icons Sports Bar and Grill has an excellent line up of beers that are micro brewed in the nearby towns. Matched with good food and a younger crowd it's a great place in New Fairfield to eat and mingle. Olde 37 Patio & Grill is catered toward the healthy conscious crowd with grass-fed burgers and sweet potato fries. Villa Pasta Fortunado is located on 249 State Route 39, New Fairfield, CT 06812-2819, but is tough to find from the road. Minutes away from Danbury and Patterson, New York it attracts a slightly different crowd than you'd see at the majority of the restaurants in town.
One of the most notable things to do in town is visiting the New Fairfield Town Park which like any small town requires you purchase a season pass for a small fee. Heading to the town park is a great family activity because they have a large picnic area with a swimming facility. This little town park is open for weekends from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day weekend. I'd highly suggest if you're looking for something great to do in the town of New Fairfield that you head over to the town park.
