DanburyDanbury CT is one of the best places in Connecticut. Not many people know the history behind Danbury, and how the city got its name "Hat City". Hat City is the nickname of Danbury. Geographically, Danbury is located underneath New Fairfield, and surrounded by the following towns: Bethel, Brookfield, Ridgefield, Brewster, and New Milford. Danbury is part of Hudson Valley, Fairfield County and the Housatonic Valley Region. With a population of 70,000 people, the City of Danbury is classified as a City. Despite the lack of sky scrapers, huge parking garages, and expensive places to eat this little town of Danbury is a city.
Many people love Hat City for its diverse culture. In the Danbury High School alone there are over 25 different languages spoken. Whereas nearby areas such as Ridgefield, Brookfield, or New Fairfield there is next to no diversity in culture. The High School has over 1700 students, and is one of the biggest high schools in the state of Connecticut. Despite the size of the school there are a ton of great programs available to local Danbury teens. Every year they take a trip to different areas of the world including Spain, Mexico and Great Britain. The City Center of Danbury is also a thriving place for new businesses to grow. The Danbury Chamber of Commerce is a great place to be involved with if you're thinking about starting a small business. They have many different opportunities for new businesses, and old businesses alike. Every week the Danbury Chamber of Commerce does about 3 lunches, 1 presentation, and 4 socials. People come from all over just to go to Danbury's Mall. The Mall of Danbury is one of the biggest malls in the Connecticut. Although people surely come from local Connecticut areas such as Brookfield, Bethel, New Fairfield, Ridgefield, Redding, and New Milford, most people come from Putnam County NY. Putnam County is neighboring Danbury on the left, and has many different towns including Brewster, Pawling, Poughkeepsie and Yonkers. New Yorkers can be seen traveling up 84-East towards the Danbury Mall, or visiting the only whole foods location in a 30-mile radius. There are many different things that the City of Danbury is famous for, but one of the biggest reasons is the restaurants. Since there are over 25 different nationalities taking residency in the borders of the city there is a very diverse chain of restaurants. Fairfield County is one of the biggest commuter areas to New York City. One of the best places to commute from is Danbury because of how inexpensive it is to live, and the fact that it is one of the safest cities in Connecticut. We have a plethora of limo services in the local area because of how many people are commuting to Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Hat City isn't the only name given to this beautiful area. The Danbury Residents are also referred to as Danburians! These Danburians are responsible for creating one of the only manmade lakes in the state of Connecticut. That's right, Candlewood Lake is 100% man made, and borders many local towns including New Fairfield. Having a lake in your city does a ton for raising the median income of the city. Many people will pay a ton for a beautiful house on the lake. Because of Candlewood lake, the city of Danbury has attracted many different employers including: Western CT Health Network, Boehringer Ingelheim, Cartus, GE, Praxair and even a College! Western Connecticut State University is just one of Danbury's Colleges. In the City of Danbury alone there are over 5 colleges including Housatonic State College, WCSU, and the Connecticut College of Arts. Western Connecticut State University, commonly referred to as Westconn is responsible for fueling the economic status of Danbury by training many youth for different positions throughout the Greater Danbury area. Danbury has many different areas of interest including their famous hiking trails which consist of Bear Mountain Reservation, Old Quarry Nature Center, Tarrywile, and the Ives Trail. The Ives trail is a unique area which stretches over 20 miles from Bennett’s Pond located one town over in Ridgefield through Danbury to Redding. Another interesting thing that Danbury is known for is the great parks that are located inside the city. Bear Mountain Park is located inside of Bear Mountain Reservation, and is a popular destination for many hikers, bikers, picnics, and festivities. Tom West Park is another great area located on the other end of the city. Many people like to go to Tom West Park because of how quiet it is during the day unlike the most popular park, Tarrywile which can be very crowded. Danbury has a large mountain biking community who love to ride through the tricky trails of Blind Brook Park, Still River Greenway, and Candlewood Town Park. These parks take up significant room in Danbury’s city walls, but add a certain atmosphere to the city overall. This western Connecticut area has many small parks including: Elmwood Park, Rogers Park, Richter Park, and Hatters Park. One thing you must be aware of when buying a house in Danbury is the local school districts. The best schools are located on the outskirts of the city and include: Stadley Rough, King Street Primary, Morris Street, and Pembroke. Some of the other schools in Danbury don’t have as good reputations, and we suggest that you watch out for these schools: Great Plain, Park Avenue, Shelter Rock, and Hayestown. People in Danbury certainly love their sports! Any sports goers have absolutely picked the right town to live in because Danbury has a ton of different professional sports. The Danbury Trashers are part of the United Hockey League, and the Danbury Whalers are part of the Federal Hockey League. The Danbury Sports Dome is also a great place for the local teams to practice, play, and compete. Many soccer, flag football, ultimate frisbee and baseball games are played indoor at the Danbury Sports Dome. Western Connecticut State College is known for its diverse sports background with including wrestling, baseball, tennis, cross country, and of course Rugby. The college Rugby club is known throughout New England as one of the top Rugby clubs in the nation. Many people aspire to attend Westconn just to join the Rugby Club.
