What is Personal Training All About?
Personal Training is all about forming a lasting relationship with your client. 1 on 1 Personal Training is the best way to accomplish this. I've worked at Bootcamps, Group Personal Training studios, and done small group training as well. Working at any of those small to large group training venues was a great learning experience. I learned that people need one on one personal exercise instruction because of a couple key factors that I'll explain in just a moment.
Reason Number One:
Accountability is personal. One of the group exercise facilities I worked at would embarrass their members in an effort to control their eating habits. Personal Training is about relationships. Being a coach to your client is a much better way to help them succeed with their lifestyle changes. Whether they're working on removing the excess carbs from their diet or making sure to stretch their shoulders out before bed, a coach is there to keep them accountable.
Reason Number Two:
1 on 1 Physical Exercise Instruction is personal. Diving deep into exactly how the knee is tracking during a squat or how the core is engaging during a deadlift takes a lot of focus from the trainer. The trainee may think that they're doing an exercise correctly, but only the trainer will be able to truly help them understand the proper form. In addition to maintaining proper form during gym exercises our well educated trainers will be able to give you corrective exercises to do. Corrective exercises are always different depending on which muscles are weak or inhibited. Proper corrective exercise instruction is vital to the health and well being of the trainee.
Reason Number Three:
Nutrition is a personal subject. Proper Nutrition isn't an easy to follow program. If eating right was easy there would be no need for personal trainers, exercise coaches or nutritionists. Finding the right balance of foods for each trainee is an individual battle that needs to happen in private.
Fitness instruction is all about finding the proper mix of corrective exercise, metabolic movements and strength training routines. Finding the best routine for a man or women seeking enhanced personal fitness isn't a one size fits all recipe. Often women need to work on their core, balance and proprioceptive exercises more so than men. Men need to work on their muscle imbalances through corrective exercises more so than women. The approach to food that men and women have is different as well.
Losing weight is all about retraining the brain through establishing proper behaviors. Establishing a new routine is very difficult, but it can be done. If you're struggling with excess weight gain because you're turning to food for stress relief then a blanket dietary change won't work for you. Trainers know that in order to change the body you need to change the routine, but in order to change the routine you need to change the mind. Talking about your stresses with your physical trainer is a great way to get it out of your system. Making little changes every week is an excellent way to chip away at the foundation of a bad behavior.
